West Wyalong

We pulled in to West Wyalong. The showground campsite for $20, power and water, looked very dry and dusty with no trees. The free camp would have been better with the trees there in the park. We decided on the van park in town. The one on the highway was the same price with the truck noise.

Settled in there and had lunch. Then headed to Wyalong. The town is divided into Wyalong and West Wyalong. It was a thing that happened during the gold rush where the original town was surveyed to the east. When the town was being set up there the miners and community supporting it refused to budge from their diggings west of the surveyed town. A compromise was reached and a town developed in each location. The main street of West Wyalong follows the original diggings main street, so it is no straight line. I love the quirkiness of that.

A town was still established at Wyalong which encorporated some important buildings.

We visited the Glass shop there. Linda bought some stuff.

After advice from the lady at the glass place at Wyalong we went out to Weethalle, 57 km away, to see the silo art. It was a beautiful job on the silos.  We stopped at the pub for a beer and a chat to the publican. A very nice lady there.

We drove back to West Wyalong and checked out the old replica of the gold mine shaft. There was a bit of history about the place as well.

Back to the van and relaxed. The next morning we took a walk around town. You have seen the photos already that I took that morning.
