Lake Cargelligo
Thursday the 3rd October and we left West Wyalong after having a walk around town and doing a bit of shopping. It has been getting progressively drier as we have been coming north west from before Temora. As we were heading for Lake Cargelligo it was very dry.
As always I had taken a look at Wikicamps to see where we might stay. There were two free camps and a caravan park. There was no need to go to a van park that night so we went to the freecamp very near town so we could walk in for dinner. So we pulled in to Frog Hollow free camp. It is a great spot right on the lake. There is a portaloo flushing toilet but that was all we needed with our fully self contained van. Don’t even need that but it makes life easier. This was our spot.
I zoomed in on my camera to see our van across the lake.
If you go back and look at the map of the lake and enlarge it you will see there are a couple of 'holding lakes' before the Lachlan River fills the main lake. We drove out to Curlew Water to see where the channel from the River goes from Curlew Water to the main lake.
We had also dropped in to the Information Centre and chatted to the people there. The lady running the place called her husband over to chat to us as we had a few questions about the drought and the lake. He was a farmer and on the board of directors for the administration of the lake. He was very knowledgeable. The lake is 65 % full. The drought is bad there but the town will not be running out of water. They have good bore water for the town to drink. But they are now treating the lake water to use as well.
Late that afternoon we walked into town and had a few drinks in town to support it a bit. Linda did not fancy a meal from the pub so back to camp for dinner. Next morning it was time to hook up and head for home. This would be the last night before getting home.
